My approach to working with students is to meet them where they are – both in terms of the process and the amount of support they require. This means that with some students, I am very hands on, editing essays line by line together on Zoom; with other students, I asynchronously edit drafts and wait to receive a new one. With every student, I help create a timeline that is both realistic and allows them to produce the best essay possible. I also provide compassionate support and guidance to help them navigate the college application process and write their best essays without feeling overwhelmed or discouraged.

My biggest piece of advice is to start early! The more time you give yourself to brainstorm, write and rewrite, the better your final personal statement will be. Also, be true to yourself! Don’t try to write what you think admissions officers want to hear. Your essay will be much stronger if you share your true experiences and reflections.
