Danny draws from nearly twenty years of combined experience in education and entrepreneurship to guide his students with creative energy and compassion. His journey as an educator began while attending Phillips Exeter Academy, where he trained non-native English speakers to become outstanding writers and to craft compelling admissions essays for top U.S. boarding schools. While teaching, he enjoyed empowering students to achieve meaningful personal milestones. Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, he started his own educational consulting firm in Korea, where he helped students from diverse interest backgrounds reach their dream colleges, including Columbia, Caltech, NYU, UW Madison, and many others.
Prior to joining ILUMIN, Danny was the Co-founder and Marketing Director of a Silicon Valley nutraceuticals company, and managed its growth for over nine years. His startup experience inspires his mentorship approach; he loves working with students to identify unique opportunities that showcase their core values and strengths, and to express their insights through thoughtful college essays. He believes that the college admissions process can help students develop deeper self-awareness, preparing them for exciting and fulfilling careers beyond school.
Originally from Korea, Danny first came to the U.S. to attend Harker School in sixth grade. He earned his B.A. in international relations from UPenn with minors in economics and East Asian studies, and currently makes his home in Appleton, Wisconsin.
As an educational consultant, he feels a great sense of purpose and joy in helping students from around the world pursue their passions with all their hearts.
