Yii-Shyun graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Pomona College and has an honors TESL certificate from the University of California, Santa Cruz. While she originally pursued becoming a vet, she parlayed her abilities to working with youth and college-aged students. She served as an advisor and coach to various student organizations at UCLA, USC, and the Claremont Colleges for over a decade. She supported students by helping edit graduate school applications, resulting in students winning the Truman Fellowship, submitting their doctoral dissertations, and gaining admissions to graduate programs at UCLA, Ohio State, and Columbia University.
In 2009, Yii-Shyun started working at one of the Bay Area’s most successful educational consulting firms. After four years of teaching and college counseling, culminating in her role as a Counseling Director, she started her own educational consulting firm in Istanbul, Turkey. Her students from Istanbul have earned admissions to schools like Columbia, Brown, University of Chicago, Northwestern, and many more.
As a graduate of Gunn High School, Yii-Shyun understands the pressures and expectations local students face. She loves to empower students to become better thinkers and writers as they refine their personal statements; her goal in counseling is to help students gain self-awareness, confidence, and a sense of purpose during the college application season.
