John is a graduate of New York University, where he received his degree in Theatre. When he moved to Los Angeles after graduation, he began tutoring high school students, initially as a way to supplement his acting income. John quickly fell in love with the process of helping each student maximize his/her academic potential, reinforcing important study habits that match his/her unique learning style. He soon went on to earn his TEFL Certificate, which led to a teaching stint in Peru. This was followed by a move to China, where John became more involved in admissions consulting and built on his prior work providing application support. Over a two-year cycle, he handled a caseload of almost 100 students attending some of the top independent American boarding schools and looking to continue their education in the United States.
As a college advisor, John has implemented strategies to help students build compelling narratives and establish practical goals. He has also played a key role as a college essay coach, helping each student embrace his/her authentic voice. His students have gained admission to some of America's most prestigious colleges and universities. John's thrilled to bring his diligent and personalized counseling approach to students within the ILUMIN community.
