Obi is dedicated to helping students discover and communicate the experiences, values, and ambitions that make them stand out. He believes the college application process is an opportunity not only to gain admission to a university, but also to develop greater self-awareness and confidence.
As an Academic Specialist with Harlem Children's Zone, Obi mentored and supported hundreds of middle and high school students through tutoring, academic planning, and college readiness programming. He has guided students through personal statements, supplemental essays, and interview preparation, helping them present authentic and compelling applications.
Prior to his work in education, Obi served as a Legal Researcher at the International Criminal Court in The Hague and as an Assistant Copy Editor for the Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights. These international experiences sharpened his research, analytical, and editorial skills — strengths he now channels into helping students become stronger writers and more confident thinkers.
Obi holds a Master of Laws in Public International Law and Human Rights from Utrecht University and undergraduate degrees in Law, Political Science, and History. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, surfing, skiing, and spending time in the outdoors. He is thrilled to be part of the ILUMIN team and help students tell their stories with clarity and confidence.
